V2 Diarama. Modeling the F.R. Batterie (Long-Range Rocket)

The V2 Mobile Firing Position in Scale 1/35 by Bert Koopman.

Bert Koopman is an accomplished scale modeler from the Netherlands. Bert is active in the Dutch V-Weapon Investigation Group and has contributed greatly to the content of this website. Bert is currently building a 1/35 scale example of the F.R. Mobile V2 Rocket Batterie with great accuracy.  I have asked him to share his experiences and display his models here. - Tracy

NOV. 2000 - This section of the V2 Resource Site will deal with the models of the V2 in the 1/35 scale. We will try to detail the different models that make a complete representation of the launching site. The discriptions will give an idea of the work that has to be done when creating the F.R. Batterie in 1/35 scale.

Some models are not availible on the model market, so a intensive study of the available documentation is necessary, and sometimes we have to work from only one photo to get the model needed to complete the site.

One source of information are the documetaires from the television stations, one in particular is Discovery, this station sends on very regulary basis documentaires about WWII and it has very well documented films about the V weapons. Another excellent source is the History-Channel. The other sources are original German V2 documents, documentation about operation Backfire (the British V2 tests), American sources about the White Sands tests, many books and at least the regular V2 rocket pages of this site.

The main problem with the V-weapons is that these operations where secret even for the normal German military personal, in a interview with a local newspaper I have called it “the Secret within the Secret."

(Actual German documentation from the mechnical manual of the T-stoff heating trailer -  Fz. Pos. No. 407)

So, to get good documentation you need time, very much time, but soon you will get results. We will take one vehicle at a time to describe. In the text there will be links to the real V2 pages and links to drawings that will give more specific info, but most of all - pictures taken of the real 1/35 scale models. It is impossible to give a total building description of every vehicle because some models are already built and painted. These vehicles will get a smaller description. But others, like the Meillerwagen, will get a full and detailed description. They are still in the box and need to be built.

Twenot!
